KURE FOR HEALTHCARE OPTIMIZATION:
Reduce Patient Wait Times
Here’s how Kure guides teams to optimize processes. In this example, a Process Optimization Team uses Kure to reduce patient wait times resulting in:
More timely patient care
Reduction in patients leaving without being seen
Increase in patient and staff satisfaction
74% Improvement in Patient Wait Times
Step 1: What’s My Opportunity?
Clarify what optimizing the process will accomplish
A team of the clinic staff identified an improvement opportunity to reduce their patients’ time to be seen by a care provider. Currently, patient times to be seen were averaging about 57 minutes.
Kure set their project up for success by clarifying their problem and goal, then automatically created their Project Charter, Plan and Timeline.
Step 2: What’s My Process?
Explore the steps by which the work gets done and find opportunities
The clinic staff was guided to map out their current process, explore the clinic patient flow, interview staff, review patient feedback, and collect data on its performance using Kure’s As-Is Map and Data Collection Tools.
Kure enabled the team to establish the Baseline performance of their process. Kure's AI, which includes Anomaly Detection, identified several clues to how to optimize the process. These included:
Weekend volume and times much greater than weekdays
Patient requiring lab test have longer times
An extreme wait time when the patient was overlooked on a high volume day and staff thought they left the clinic
Step 3: What’s Causing My Problem?
Identify one or more actionable items producing the undesired effect
Using Kure, the clinic staff easily identified several root causes to address in the process to meet their goals using a Fishbone Diagram and the 5 Whys. These included:
Staffing to demand
Need for testing
Patient unclear on flow
Step 4: What’s My Solution?
Implement specific solutions to make the problem go away
The clinic staff determined, developed and implemented the best solutions using Kure’s Solution Selection Matrix which helped them visualize their options:
Staffing model
Improve signage
Staff assignments to treatment rooms
Phlebotomy training for RNs
After implementing these solutions, patient time to be seen reduced from 57 minutes to 15 minutes (74% improvement).
To ensure their process performance gain was maintained, the clinic staff used the Monitoring & Response Plan and closed the project with a Project Handoff.
Kure automatically generates this documentation alongside a Project Summary so the project team was able to easily communicate and celebrate their success — helping them efficiently transfer and scale their success throughout their hospital system.
